Stony Brook Medicine Medical Director Elliott Bennett-Guerrero, MD

An experienced anesthesiologist based in Stony Brook, New York, Dr. Elliott Bennett-Guerrero serves as a professor at Stony Brook University. He has also assumed several leadership positions since joining the university in 2016, such as vice chairman of the Stony Brook Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and medical director of perioperative quality and patient safety. His areas of focus as a medical researcher include postoperative morbidity, surgical site infection, and improving the safety and effectiveness of blood transfusion procedures. Dr. Elliott Bennett-Guerrero has also spearheaded numerous quality improvement initiatives designed to improve patient outcomes and reduce risk, including but not limited to improvements in areas of diabetes and sepsis.

Dr. Elliott Bennett-Guerrero received his medical degree from the Harvard Medical School. He completed his medical training at Duke University, which involved an anesthesiology residency and critical care medicine fellowship. In addition to his professional activities as a medical director and researcher, he supports the field of public defense via a scholarship at the University of Colorado Law School. His professional interest in exercise performance led him to take up triathlon training and competitions.
